Thursday’s Island hop
This morning was much the same as the morning before. I attended the class that went until 11:30, we had some lunch then packed a light suitcase for an adventure on another island, what locals and tourists alike call “Island hopping”.
A ticket from Kauai to Oahu was only $49! We thought it was well worth it to see Pearl Harbor and experience what another island was like. Kauai is very different than Maui, Hawaii and Oahu. They are all bigger islands and more city like with big resorts on the beaches’ edge. It was great to have the best of both worlds here, a remote island location with plenty of sea life and then the city for more shopping restaurants and tourists activities.
It was here that we enjoyed dinner at Hula Grill right at the water’s edge at Waikiki beach. This is where I had the best ever Mahi-mahi! It was worth the $50 plate!
After dinner we walked on the beach for a little bit and saw this very interesting tree! I’ve never seen anything like this before!
Friday at Pearl Harbor
Then the next morning I had the best donuts or “malasadas” I’ve ever had from a place called Leonard’s. They are different than your typical American donut, they are Portuguese style donuts and I wish they had something like this where I live. They were fresh baked and warm right out of the oven. It was suggested that we try the original, but we also wanted to try the macadamia nut filling and the custard filling. They were amazing!
From here we took a Lyft over to the Pearl Harbor Museum. We had hopes to be boated over to Ford island to see the sunken USS Arizona, but the winds where too high for good conditions, I think mostly to cater to the elderly population who might not be able to handle it. Despite not being able to look down on the USS Arizona, the museum part was very educational and helped me to see the significance of that day and the many sacrifices people made for the freedoms I have today.
After visiting the museum we hopped back on the plane back over to Kauai and after dropping off our things, we went back to Keoki’s Paradise for a late dinner, but then we went to bed early because we knew we were going to have a wonderful day out at our excursion up the Nepali Coast!
