French Toast Casserole
It was a tradition my ex started…making french toast casserole ready to go for Christmas morning and it’s one that I’ve continued on for our kids every Christmas morning. It’s quite easy to make and is wonderful on Christmas morning because it requires little work, pre-heat the oven while you are opening stockings, pop the casserole that you’ve prepared the night before into the oven and bake for 45 minutes until you are ready to take a break from Christmas present opening and enjoy a sweet treat without having to be in the kitchen.
Here’s how what you need to get started:
French toast casserole
1 loaf of French bread
8 eggs
1/2 cup of heavy whipping cream
2 cups of milk
3/4 of sugar
2 TBSP of vanilla extract
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1/2 cup of flour
1 tsp of cinnamon
1 stick of butter
Directions:
Butter a 9’’x12’’ glass baking dish with a spachula like you would with crisco but use butter instead (real butter)
In a mixing bowl: Combine, eggs, heavy whipping cream, milk and vanilla extract and sugar. whip until eggs are fully beaten.
In another mixing bowl combine: Combine cinnamon. Stick of butter cut into slices, flour, brown sugar mix together. Small pebble like clumps will form from the butter, this is okay and needed to put over the top of the casserole.
After the above two steps, tear the french bread up into pieces and put in your 9x12 baking pan. Pour the egg mixture over the French bread evenly making sure all pieces have been submerged in the egg mixture.
Sprinkle the buttery cinnamon topping over the top of the of the French bread. Let sit in the fridge overnight covered.
In the morning pop in the oven at 375 degrees for 45-50 minutes while you open presents.
After an hour you’ll have a hassle free breakfast! Cut and serve pouring maple syrup over the top! It’s been our Christmas tradition for years!
